About

Petixe is the journal and portfolio of Rachel Jaro – a developer and a wannabe designer from Pampanga, Philippines. The word petixe came from the the tagalog slang word ‘pa petiks-petiks lang’ which means laid back, relaxed or easy going.

About Rachel

I am a woman who has been attracted both to technology and arts. Since my left brain dominates my right brain, I became a web developer since 2005. I use PHP and MySQL as my primary tools in providing quality, professional web solutions. I use different technologies such as CakePHP, Drupal, OsCommerce, Magento, WordPress and Zend Framework, whichever fits the job best.

My right brain activities, on the other hand, balances my life. I like cartoons, paintings, color, web design, interior designs and architectures. I also like to engage myself in sports. I have tried 2 things which I really like: hiking and badminton. I love traveling too. If given a chance (and I am working on that), I will travel my home country and then visit the others. I particularly like to go to Austria, Paris, Scotland, UK and northern China.

Career and Work

Solutions Architect at Promet Source

I am happily employed at Promet Source since 2006 (my profile). My main responsibility is to provide technical oversight to large-scale projects through the entire full lifecycle including requirements gathering, technical assessments, technical design, development, knowledge transfer, launch and support. That plainly says I’m involved almost in all phases of a project’s life cycle.

Independent Web Consultant

I work with people or companies outside my regular 8-hour job to work on things that interest me. Also, it helps pay the bills from my shopping and travel spree!

Jack of all trades at Tripsiders

My newly side project that is all about Philippine tourist spots! I work as a manager, developer, designer, seo expert, customer, helper, consultant and decision maker. Basically, anything that I can provide. I try to practice my entrepreneurial side.

Share

Life is not really only about yourself. So I try my best to connect with people and share whatever I can give.

  • I volunteer in the PHP Roadshow project conducted by PHPUGPH. PHP Roadshow is an outreach to college students with the goal of reaching the same level of programming competency of our counterparts outside of the country.
  • I contribute drupal modules
  • I blog anything here, some cakephp tutorials and drupal stuff here.

Outside the IT world, I contribute to kiva.org who helps entrepreneurs funds their businesses. I like helping people who help themselves first. If you have a minute, please get to know them at kiva.org.

Get in Touch

You can contact me directly with your thoughts, critiques or what have you as long as it’s not a spam. I always check my email when I’m online (I’m always online except when I travel which is really rare)
