PHP Roadshow visits St. Paul QC

Another successful PHP Roadshow was held last August 1 in St. Paul QC. The usual gang are present which makes the roadshow more enjoyable. I discussed my usual stuff, my undying love for cakephp! (wahaha drama). This one I guess was the happiest leg so far (I have only attended 3 legs) because the students were so participative and I had so much fun with the jokes and tease to Mr. Landline and ofcourse the FREE Tarot Reading from Sir Jeff and his GF. I hope next time I can join again. For the meantime, here are some pictures I got from Ridvan.

Topics from the Gang:
Introduction to the PHP Roadshow and PHP User Group Philippines (Jeffrey R. Seracarpio)
Introduction to PHP (Ridvan Baluyos)
Introduction to MySQL (Chean Domingo)
Introduction to CakePHP (Rachel Jaro – ME)
CMS / Joomla (Eric Bangug)
Careers in IT (Jonathan Yap)

PHP Roadshow is an outreach to college students with the goal of reaching the same level of programming competency of our counterparts (Filipino and non-Filipino) outside of the country (including standardizations and value of work).

This is an initiated project of PHP User Group Philippines, Inc. (PHPUGPH), in support of the organization’s mission of advocating and disseminating the use of PHP (Hypertext Pre-processor) as well as Open Source technologies in schools and companies in the Philippines.

November is my Lucky Month

I think it’s my lucky month is november. Why? For three and a half (3.5) reasons:

  1. It’s my birth month and I received my best birthday gift so far — woot!
  2. We got in the finals of GlobeLabs contest — woot! again
  3. I got the business cardsssssssss — woot! again and again
  4. I finally reached my very first $10 earnings from google ads after 2 years of blogging! — woot! 3x and a half. Just half because I haven’t received it yet. Believe it, 2 years of blogging ;) and I only started using it again around the 3rd quarter. I actually had one in my first few tries in blogging and then totally stopped using until this year.

I’m still hoping for another blessing this month. If not this month hopefully by early december. *crossing my fingers* and wish us good luck for tomorrow. What’s with tomorrow? It’s the final judging of our entry for the Globelabs event! :D

WordCamp Philippines 2008 Memories

I’m so excited to blog this but did not find enough time to compose it last week. Well after I got home on Saturday night, I tried to watch PDA but tiredness really struck me so I went to my bed and fell asleep shortly. I woke up around noon the next day. I managed to blog my Octoberfest experience and then took another round of sleep. hehe.

Anyway, going back to my wordcamp experience. Junelle almost laid out the whole story and I could only add a little details but you’ll get the whole picture of my experience too.

At 6am, I kinda feel a little alive. We went to Lisa’s place to get dressed and then they escorted me to the LRT (thanks again to the group). It took me only a few minutes to get to St. Benilde where the Wordcamp event took place. I’m happy to see Junelle already there because I could not tell how much longer I could stand on my own. The event is well organized and great! I love the lauriat from Chowking! I hope next time we can ask Max to donate some chicken :D .

While in the event, I missed some talks specially the how to create a theme by Gail and Matt’s introduction. I was sooo sleepy I wish I was at home at those moment. I was day dreaming I was in my bed. Hehe. I still manage to listen to some talk though and I was able to ask Matt Mullenweg for a picture. Yey!

Matt and me

As for what I learned in the event. I think I can create plugins from now on! My favorite part though is the SEO plugins list. I am not much into SEO but I am curious so I went to Hans Koch talk about SEO and he gave 11 plugins. It was really helpful because up until now I installed only 2 from those he gave me. Haha. Below are the list of those suggestions. (If it’s unethical, let me know though so I can erase them asap.)

  • All-in-one SEO Pack
  • WordPress SEO master
  • Crawl rate tracker plugin
  • Google sitemap generator
  • Redirection wordpress plugin
  • Similar Post plugin
  • Ultimate tag warrior
  • KB Robots.txt
  • Add this social booksmarks widget
  • WP Backlinks
  • Internal link building plugin

Those are the only thing I was able to grasp. We left early because Junelle still had a flight to catch. We were not able to catch the Powow section of Matt where anyone can ask questions. Oh well, maybe next time if there is a next time. The moral lesson here, I should not try again to stay up for 36hours!

OctoberFest + WordCamp = Eyebugs

I need drugs for tomorrow! It’s whirlwind decision for tonight. Pano ba nmn kc ininvite invite pko ni Neri sa OctoberFest Kick Off party. Eh syempre makikita ko mga fans ko dun kaya di ako makatanggi. I don’t want to dissappoint them. Kaya eto, naghahanap ng panggising for 36hours. Alis kmi dito at 6PM tomorrow and then partying till 4AM in the morning tpos at 8AM may Wordcamp pko! waaaa. Ilang extra joss b kailangan ko dito? Haha. Well, I am excited pa rin. Haha. It’s going to be a bloody bloggable event.

Para sa mga kaberks ko sa ibang lugar, read here para sa locations baka available din sa inyo.

Globe Labs ’08 Event at Shangri-La

Before this one is forgotten in my “Baul ng Kayaman”, last August 8, I had the privilege to meet again my fellow PHPUGPHers for the globelabs event held in Shangri-La Manila. Take a peek at some pictures.

Globe Labs is a new organization within Globe Telecom whose mission is to help bring in the newest future technology services at the earliest market-relevant time. They launches a new competition that will bring together application development companies, freelance software developers and members of the academe to build applications for the everyday communication needs of customers. check complete news here

I’ll be joining the competition, hopefully no pressure on my side. (cross fingers) I’m looking forward to also see the proposals and final products by other groups. I’m very much sure a lot of new and awesome ideas will gonna heat up the competition since it’s open for Java, Ruby, PHP, .Net and other developers. Let’s see how things will go.

WordCamp in Manila!

I’m excited to know the wordpress users are going to have a meetup in Manila this September 9 hosted by WordCamp Philippines 2008 and Mindanao Bloggers. The presentation will divided into 2 parts, Deployment and development which makes it more interesting. I love the following topics, I hope all of them are going to be included in the final presentations.

Updates and Events

It’s been already a while since I transferred the site here and still got no new post! I have a lot of ideas to talk about but lacks the time to write them. The things that keeps my mind busy – another website, the reason I bought this domain but now made to this one instead of “that”, studying Drupal, widgets and meeting up with the local Php users.

Recently I’ve met with PHPUGPers (great people) and talked about a few things. I’m excited about the upcoming event this December 1 although I am not able to come :( Well there is also another BIG EVENT for the Promet team this upcoming late November so I’m quite preparing (and praying) for that now :D . Back to the Dec 1 event, as a Php user, I am excited to know there are local events like this and recommend everyone to join. The Goal of the meeting is about Gathering of country’s best tech-talents, professionals and web developer’s promoting the use of PHP and opensource solutions in the enterprise and schools. There are already some subjects I like
